Graduate Student
Bukuru was born in Tanzania and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Pomona College in 2021 with a B.A in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. While at Pomona, he conducted research with Pierre Darancet at Northwestern University Materials Research Science and Engineering Center on functionalization of two-dimensional materials. He then joined the Zhang group in 2021 as a GEM and NSF graduate research Fellow. His current research is focused on polymer upcycling into value-added products and the thermocatalytic reduction of CO2. Outside of lab, Bukuru enjoys running, following his favorite soccer team (Manchester City), biking, and cooking.
