About UVA/Charlottesville

Located at the foot of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville has been home to the University of Virginia since Thomas Jefferson established it in 1819. UVA was established as a truly immersive program in which one could study any combination of subjects rather than simply focusing on one school. This philosophy has in part led to the establishment of the University of Virginia as a premier research University being ranked as the #2 public university and #24 overall by 2017 rankings in the US News and World Report. UVA's innovative students and faculty have so far generated 65,000 businesses and generate $1.6 trillion in revenue annually.

UVA is also consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful universities with its iconic grounds including the Rotunda, the lawn, and Jeffersonian architecture. Together with Jefferson's home Monticello, UVA is the first University protected as a UNESCO world heritage site. Its location near the Blue Ridge makes for easy access to the Appalachain trail for hikers or Skiing at Wintergreen. For fishers and boaters nearby are the Rivanna and James Rivers. For those less likely to be found in the wild, Charlottesville is also home to hundreds of restaurants being ranked as one of the best small cities for foodies by travelocity in 2016. The artistically inclined may enjoy a stroll along the downtown pedestrian mall. Finally, Charlottesville is only 2 hours away from Washington DC or 1 hour away from Richmond, VA for an easy day trip.
