Located at the foot of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville has been home to the University of Virginia since Thomas Jefferson established it in 1819. Its location near the Blue Ridge makes for easy access to the Appalachain trail for hikers or Skiing at Wintergreen. For fishers and boaters nearby are the Rivanna and James Rivers. For those less likely to be found in the wild, Charlottesville is also home to hundreds of restaurants being ranked as one of the best small cities for foodies by travelocity in 2016. The artistically inclined may enjoy a stroll along the downtown pedestrian mall. Finally, Charlottesville is only 2 hours away from Washington DC or 1 hour away from Richmond, VA for an easy day trip.
