We have been awarded an ACS Petroleum Research Fund New Directions Grants! It allows us to start a new project on direct methane oxidation to methanol.
Pyung is a third year undergraduate student from Centreville, Virginia. He is majoring in chemical engineering and minoring computer science. He is interested in renewable energy and sustainability. Outside of school, he likes to play the drums and spends time with family and friends.
Daniel was born and raised in Stafford, Virginia until transferring to UVA in 2019. Transferring in as a third year he declared B.S Chemistry and is on track to graduate in May 2021. His guided research for the Zhang Lab includes controlled synthesis of nanoparticles for clean energy applications. In his free time, Dan enjoys hiking, traveling, and watching tv shows.
Kayvon Samdani is a member of the class of 2023 from Alexandria, VA. He plans to major in biology. As well as an undergrad researcher, Kayvon is a member of the Sigma Phi fraternity, an executive board member of the College Council, and a racer on the Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboard Team.
Paul Bean is a fourth year Chemistry student from Falls Church, Virginia. He is pursuing an ACS certified B.S. in Materials Chemistry with a minor in mathematics. In his free time, he is an amateur geologist, stargazer, guitarist, cook, dog enthusiast, Cookout quesadilla enjoyer, and hiker extraordinaire.
Sherry is a third year Chemistry student from Richmond, VA. She is majoring in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry, with a minor in Entrepreneurship. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, listening to music, and spending time with friends.
Xiangru grew up in Yuncheng, Shanxi, China. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in inorganic chemistry from Soochow University. Then she studied highly dispersed metal catalysts under the advisement of Prof. Zhangxiong Wu at Soochow University. She joined the Zhang's group in 2019 as a visiting student with a focus on design and synthesis of single atom catalysts.
Congratulations to Prof. Sen Zhang who have been named 2020 Scialog Fellows by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. He is looking forward to joining fellows at the 2020 Scialog virtual conference on Negative Emissions Science (NES).
